Psychometric tests/questionnaires are now increasingly being used by employers as a tool to aid their human resources strategies. Notably they are being used to help select suitable candidates during the recruitment process and often play an important role in staff development programmes.

In relation to Career Guidance they are used to provide objective and detailed information on skills, abilities, personality, values and interests. This information can then be utilised when looking at potential jobs/careers.

Psychometric Testing falls into the following main areas:

Ability and Aptitude Testing
This measures a person’s potential to learn new skills required for a new career or to cope with the demands of a particular training course.

Personality Testing
This is useful when assessing whether individuals would be temperamentally suitable for certain types of work, or working environments.

As a Careers Team we offer the Morrisby Profile Psychometric test and have a member of staff who is BPS (British Psychological Society) qualified to deliver psychometric assessments.

Before undertaking a psychometric assessment all potential users are required to attend a careers interview to determine which assessment would be most appropriate.
